The father of Brittany Robinson, 23, was putting Christmas lights around his house in Shenango Township when he discovered the body of a newborn in a crawl space under the porch.
The man immediately called 911 after discovering the seven-pound, 19 inch long child inside a bag tucked in the crawlspace of his Shenango Township home.
Police said Brittnay Robinson, 23, is facing several charges, including criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse. “They’re still looking to determine if there was some exterior cause of death or the elements that killed the baby, but either way, the baby was born alive and cleaned up and then placed under there”.
Robinson was taken to the hospital for treatment related to childbirth.
[Police Handout]According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Robinson told detectives that after she gave birth, she couldn’t detect a pulse or heartbeat on the baby. “[There are] a lot of families out there that want children that can’t have children”.
“They’ve all indicated to us weren’t they aware, that she kept it a secret“, said Hermick. She told them she was too scared to turn the baby over to authorities.
‘Once again, she has an 8-year-old child as well at this time, so she’s familiar with being pregnant and how this all occurs, ‘ Hermick said. ‘So that’s part of our case as well‘.
Hermick pointed out that there are laws in place to protect mothers who don’t want their newborns, WPXI reported. “They can drop them off at a police station or hospital”. She recalled experiencing abdominal pains leading up to the event. She was arraigned on Monday and denied bond, according to online court records.
Brittany Robinson covered her face as she left the magisterial district judge’s office.
Robinson reportedly cried in court.
