In her petition filed on November 22, Amrutha, who claims she was adopted and raised by Jayalalithaa’s sister and her now deceased husband, says she learnt the “truth” about her birth after the leader’s death on December 5 past year. However, she came to know about the truth after the six-time Tamil Nadu CM passed away on December 5, reported the Hindustan Times. Among relatives who tried to claim her hefty political legacy is Deepa Jayakumar, whose father was Ms Jayalalithaa’s brother. She said she was born in Mylapore on August 14, 1980, where Shylaja was residing.
In her petition filed on November 22, Amrutha claims that she was adopted and raised by Jayalalithaa’s elder sister Shylaja and her husband Sarathy.
Her two aunts, LS Lalitha and Ranjani Ravindranath, are co-petitioners. They are supporting her to prove her relationship with the deceased CM.
Ms Jayalalithaa’s death at the age of 68 invoked a ferocious succession war that eventually pitted her closest and live-in aide, VK Sasikala, against leaders of Ms Jayalalithaa’s party including Chief Minister E Palaniswami.
Now that Amrutha has claimed that Amma was her biological mother, the bigger question is who is father? The court has, however, said that she can approach the High Court in this regard.
The apex court may hear the plea on Monday.
According to the report, the petition asked the court to “permit the family members of Jayalalitha to cremate her body as per the rites, rituals and customs of Vaishnava Iyengar-Brahmin community to which Jayalalitha and her family members belong”.
